SHUYI variable frequency drive is designed to satisfy VFD heat dissipation requirement for diverse industrial applications. Heat generated from power modules during operation is the main factor affecting drive stability. Without effective thermal control, internal electronic parts will age faster and trigger unexpected shutdowns.
Many users ignore thermal planning at the installation stage. This oversight creates hidden risks for long-time continuous running. Understanding basic thermal rules helps engineers arrange cabinets and airflow reasonably.

1. Basic Heat Generation Principle
All variable frequency drives produce heat while converting power. Most heat comes from IGBT modules and internal resistors during power conversion.
The heat loss usually accounts for 2% to 4% of the rated output power. Higher switching frequency will slightly increase heat output under the same load condition.
The power rating and continuous load rate decide total heat output. Users should calculate total heat load before selecting cabinet and cooling methods.
2. Ambient Temperature Limits Each
SHUYI VFD has defined working ambient temperature ranges. Operating beyond this limit will reduce output capacity and shorten product lifespan.
High-temperature workshops or sealed cabinets easily raise surrounding air temperature. Users need to reserve extra cooling capacity in these harsh installation sites.
Avoid direct sunlight on the drive cabinet. Solar radiation adds extra heat load and interferes with natural heat exchange.
3. Mounting Clearance Rules
Enough space around the VFD is essential for air circulation. Keep vertical and horizontal clearances as specified in the product manual.
Do not stack multiple drives too closely. Hot air from lower units will flow upward and raise the inlet temperature of upper drives.
Cable bundles should not block ventilation slots on the heatsink. Blocked vents directly reduce cooling efficiency and cause local hot spots.
4. Available Cooling Options
Natural convection suits low-power units with low heat output. It works well in clean, well-ventilated indoor electrical rooms.
Forced air cooling with filter fans is widely used for medium-power drives. Filters stop dust from attaching to heatsink fins and preserve cooling performance.
Liquid cooling is an optional solution for high-power heavy-duty scenarios. It offers high heat transfer efficiency in compact cabinet layouts.

5. Routine Thermal Inspection Tips
Regularly check fan operation and heatsink surface. Dust accumulation is one common reason for poor heat exchange in factory environments.
Monitor cabinet internal temperature during peak load periods. Record temperature data to spot thermal degradation early.
If overheating alarms appear, stop the equipment and check airflow, ambient temperature and fan status before restarting.
